Squadron Patch

The Tip of The Mitt Composite Squadron emblem consists of a blue disk with two rockers bordered in gray. The interior of the disk contains the top view of an airplane, a lighthouse emitting a beam of light, and background of blue and green depicting land and water. The patch design is the graphical representation of the unit and represents the historical legacy of navigation and aviation in northern Michigan.

The airplane symbolizes the squadron’s primary mission – Aviation.

The orange beam of light symbolizes the squadron’s guidance of local youth. The light house protects the coast just as the members of the squadron stand ready to protect and serve the community. The land and water depicted in the background is prominent in the physical geography of northern Michigan and in the daily lives of the squadron’s members

The top scroll contains the text “Docendo Discimus” - a Latin proverb meaning "By Teaching, We Learn."

The bottom scroll contains the squadron’s name, “Tip Of The Mitt Comp Sq” using the appropriate abbreviations as defined in CAP regulations.

Coloration: The shield is composed of five colors:

Blue - The colors of the United States Air Force appear in the design, representing our relationship with and support of the branch with which we are affiliated as an auxiliary. The blue represents the water surrounding Michigan.

Green – Pays respect to the hundreds of miles of forest that make up northern Michigan

Yellow/Orange – The mix of yellow and orange that make up the beam of light symbolize the ambition, wisdom, honor and excellence we hope to instill in our cadet members.

Gray – Represents our volunteerism and dedication to the organization and reflects the silver-gray background color of the Civil Air Patrol seal.

White – Stands for truth and wisdom, the airplane is in white because the laws of aviation are color blind, all are equal in the air.
